The 11.6” screen is a bit reflective, but the display is bright and runs at Full HD (1920 x 1080).

Fujitsu Stylistic Case now available for Q572 and Q702

Jun

2013

Back in April we previewed a field case for the Fujitsu Stylistic Q702 called the Stylistic Case. It’s a protective silicone bumper field case with a shoulder strap and hand strap. In our experience it is by far the most comfortable field case available.

The good news is that the Stylistic Case is now also available for the Q572. It looks much the same as the Q702 Stylistic Case, just a bit smaller.

Fujitsu Stylistic Q572 - Tablet PC Solutions

The flexible rubber X-Strap is by far the most comfortable arrangement on this type of case.

Fujitsu Stylistic Q572 - Tablet PC Solutions

As with the Q702, there’s a pen holder at the top of the case too- something that is sorely needed for the Q572.

Fujitsu Stylistic Q572 - Tablet PC Solutions

You can see on this last show that there is a cut out at the bottom of the case that allows full connectivity with the Q572 docking station. These cases do not come off easily – and that is a good thing.

That by itself is a perfect demonstration of how Fujitsu get the little things right, and that is what makes corporate tablet deployments work!

With this case, the Q572 like the Q702 is a very good option for a Windows 8 field tablet where IP ratings are not required.

The Fujitsu Q572 Stylistic Case is available via our online store.

What’s up with Lenovo Website Pricing?

Jun

2013

I was recently researching some features on Lenovo’s latest Windows 8 tablets – the ThinkPad Tablet 2 and the ThinkPad Helix – and was shocked to see that the pricing listed appeared to be in some cases less than our cost!

The devil is in the detail of course!

It turns out that what Lenovo offer via the website direct are “consumer” models. What’s the difference?

Lenovo Website:

image

Our website:

image

There are two main differences – Lenovo vs Tablet PC:

  1. Windows 8 vs. Windows 8 Pro
  2. 1 Year Warranty vs. 3 Year Business Warranty

For businesses, Windows 8 Pro allows you to connect to your company network. Windows 8 does not allow this. Also, since business users don’t often buy a new PC every year a 3 year warranty is essential.

So two get the same model from Lenovo direct, you need:

  1. Windows 8 Pro Pack to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8 Pro – Obtained from Microsoft – $249.00
  2. ThinkPad Warranty Upgrade via the Lenovo Store – $265 Inc GST.

So to get the same unit as ours costs $2653, but according to the Lenovo website it won’t be dispatched for another 2-3 weeks.

Our model is ready to go today for our web price at $2549 Inc GST.

However, if you call us today or order online today you can have a shiny new Helix tomorrow!

From the Microsoft Website:

I know that this detail has tripped up others too, so hopefully we can save you the trouble too!

Sony Vaio Duo II–Windows 8 Slider Tablet

Jun
12
2013

There are so many hybrid Windows 8 tablets emerging that it’s nice to see a slider tablet for a change. The Sony Vaio Duo II is a high end Ultrabook / Tablet slider with a 3rd Generation Intel Core i7 processor. It’s been around for a while now, and it’s future replacement has just been announced. However, we thought that we’d share some pictures with you anyway.

The Vaio Duo II is designed to be your go anywhere, do anything mobile office. If you are a person who is never far from a keyboard then the Vaio Duo II might be a good fit.

Sony Vaio Duo II bucks the overwhelming trend towards hybrid breakaway tablets, but if anyone can make the slider concept work, it’s Sony. Judging by the feedback we receive from end users of the Vaio Duo II it is working.

Vaio Duo II ships with Windows 8 Pro. The main hardware lives in the keyboard base where there are a host of connection points. There are 2 USB3 ports, a full sized HDMI, VGA and Ethernet. There’s also an SD Card Reader.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

You can quickly see that the position of the screen on the the Sony Vaio Duo II is perfect in laptop mode. The screen is counterbalanced so that the tablet will sit well on un-even surfaces like your knees. Some of the current hybrids just don’t sit well on your lap due to the distribution of weight to the back of the keyboard.

The display positioning also makes the footprint of the tablet much smaller when in laptop mode. Perfect for in-flight use on an economy tray table.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

In tablet mode, the Sony Vaio Duo II is surprisingly thin. Because of the all-in one slider design your card reader, VGA port, USB ports and Ethernet port are always with you.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The hinge mechanism is designed to the typical high standards of Japanese manufacturers. Sony quality and engineering shines through.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The full sized back lit keyboard can be at your disposal in an instant. A touch scroll based pointing device is mounted in the keyboard to save space.

These new pointing devices might take a little bit of getting used to, but I think that the would work much better than a track pad for high use. Ultimately, if you’re in laptop mode a Bluetooth wireless mouse would be an essential accessory anyway.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

In addition to the keyboard and mouse, you have a uniquely stylish version of the N-Trig Pen. As a fourth generation N-Tirg pen, this one has the pointy, quieter tip and performs close to the standard of the Wacom Pen. It also has two buttons on it, and a right click function and eraser are assigned by default.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

For the occasionally mobile note taker, the Sony Vaio Duo II is a prefect all in one Windows 8 tablet and Ultrabook. We tested it with Microsoft OneNote 2013 and found the results to be more than satisfactory thanks to the new pen design and the high performance hardware.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Battery life is around 4-5 hours thanks to the high performance 3rd generation Intel Core i5 or i7 processor. This battery life should be sufficient for the corridor warriors that would value this form factor and device.

Mounting your Motion Computing Tablet in Car

Jun
11
2013

Motion Computing have released a new video demonstrating their in vehicle mounting solutions for F5t, J3600 and CL910.

A big part of Motion Computing’s success in rugged tablets to date is the ecosystem that they have built around the product. Vehicle mounting is one component of that ecosystem.

In vehicle docking solutions facilitate a number of important functions:

  • Securing the tablet
  • Ensuring in use safety – Blank IT screen control technology prevents the tablet from being used inappropriately while moving
  • Charging the tablet
  • USB connectivity – a keyboard, track pad and printer can be permanently connected to the dock for in vehicle use
  • Serial Port connectivity (built in for J3600 dock)
  • Ergonomics.

Here are some photos of an installation the we did in a Ford Ranger 2012 Model for a local council.

20121019_114841

As you can see, the screen is blanked to prevent use while the vehicle is moving. This can be configured to allow certain programs to run – such as a Turn by Turn Navigation system, a job list or a reversing camera.

Australian vehicles that we have installed tablets into include:

  • Ford Ranger
  • Ford Territory
  • Ford Falcon
  • Holden Commodore
  • Toyota Hilux
  • Mercedes Vito
  • Ford Transit

There are many vehicle mounts designed to suit Australian vehicles. Contact us to find out more.

Fujitsu Q572 Windows 8 Tablet PC

Jun
4
2013

The Fujitsu Stylistic Q572 would not win a Windows 8 Tablet beauty pageant. That is par for the course with Fujitsu. Since they have been doing tablets for over 20 years they uniquely value function over form.

The Stylistic Q572 looks like the little brother of the Stylistic Q702. The button layouts and controls are identical. The finish is the same.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

There are some important reasons to consider the Q572 for your corporate Windows 8 tablet deployment where function is more likely to be important. Firstly, the Q572 can be deployed with Windows 8 Pro or Windows 7 Professional.

The Stylistic Q572 has a bright 10.1” 1366 x 768 screen with a matte finish. While most manufacturers of tablets this size take the safe option and go with the Intel Atom Z2670 processor, Fujitsu chose the Z-60 from AMD for the Q572.

The Z-60 is no Core i7 of course, but in a number of ways it is far superior to the Atom equivalent. A couple of points of note about the Z-60:

  • It runs 32 or 64bit – The Atom is a strictly 32 bit affair
  • Graphics performance in 2D and 3D leaves the Atom for dead
  • Battery life is about on par.

What I find disappointing with Atom Z2670 based tablets like the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 and the HP ElitePad 900 is that simple 3D animations are slow, blocky and horrible. With the Q572 3D animations are rendered smoothly. Rendering a complex CAD drawing in a PDF file is also much faster on the Q572 thanks to its far superior graphics performance.

Fujitsu’s 20 year tablet history shows though with 2 high and security features that can help IT departments to deploy high security tablets without burdening end users.

There’s a Smart Card reader:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And a fingerprint reader.

Both allow users to maintain a complete password (and It departments to enforce it) while allowing them to bypass the drudgery of having to type it in 30 times a day (they can still use their password if they prefer).

The Smart Card reader will no doubt generate interest from single sign on deployments like those used in hospitals.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

There’s an array of easy to access full sized ports. 2x USB2, HDMI, Audio, SD Card Reader.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

There is a docking cradle connector on the left side. The optional cradle adds charging capabilities, 3 USB 2 ports and Ethernet.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Unlike any other 10” tablet the battery on the Q572 is removable and replaceable. It is expected to last around 6 hours.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

One last an important thing that you can see in this close up. The Q572 is field serviceable like the Q702. Most tablets now are glued, not screwed together. That means that a technician cannot open the tablet to service in the field. In other words if something goes wrong, you’re going to be without the Tablet.

Thanks to Fujitsu valuing function over form, the Q572 can be serviced on site and that significantly separates it from any other lightweight 10" tablet on the market.

Motion J3600 – Why it stands out in pictures

May
28
2013

Yes, the Motion J3600 is a brutal looking tablet! It is unlikely to be seen in delicate hands. However, it still stands alone in its category as a versatile rugged Tablet PC and it is still a best seller.

Here’s why:

Motion J3600

The removable Mobile Keyboard that ships with most J3600 configurations makes the tablet do double duty. It can be a laptop, it can be a tablet instantly.

There is a rubberised protective coating on the keys that can easily be removed if you prefer a more traditional keyboard feel.

Motion Computing J3600 with keyboard

A series of programmable buttons on the front of the J3600 can be used to easily automate key strokes, run programs, open documents or change settings.

Motion J3600 Buttons

Security is not a hindrance with the J3600. An in built fingerprint reader and smart card reader allow you to bypass the tedium of re-entering your password 20 times a day.

Motion J3600 Fingerprint Reader Security

With audio in/out, Ethernet, 2 USB3 Ports and VGA on board the J3600 offers connectivity unlike any other rugged slate.

Motion J3600 Ports

Although PC cards have long been forgotten by the average laptop user they’re still in use in rugged and specialist applications. The J3600 is one at the only slates to offer a PC Card slot.

Motion J3600 PC Card and Smart Card Reader

How could we forgot to mention the J3600′s performance? Equipped with a 3rd Generation Intel Core i7 processor (i3 and i5 available), up to 16Gb of RAM and up to 256Gb SSD Drives the J3600 sets the bar as high as it goes.

Motion J3600 Intel Core i7

Thanks to the new generation at Intel Core processors the J3600 is kinder than previous models on batteries too. There is two of them on the back and they are hot swappable of course. We expect to see 6-8 hours of real use time from the J3600.

Motion J3600 Hot Swap Batteries

And lastly, as you can see from the last picture, the J3600 is built tough. It has a rubberised anti-slip backing, a magnesium chassis, port sealing (IP52) and Gorilla Glass (pen only view anywhere model only).

The Gorilla Glass screen starts about 2 cm away from the edge at the tablet which makes it for more likely to survive a drop than consumer tablets. It’s actually even drop tested on 26 different angles from 4 feet.

So as you can see the Motion J3600 is still one of the finest and most versatile rugged tablets available.

The J3600 is in stock now, so get in before EOFY and call us for a demonstration or quote today.

Microsoft Wedge Keyboard– Mobile Bluetooth for Tablets

May
27
2013

The Microsoft Wedge Keyboard was a big hit with new Microsoft Surface Pro owners at the MVP summit in Redmond this year.

Whilst the clip on Microsoft Touch Cover keyboard is the logical choice for a Surface Tablet, you’ll see from the pictures below why many chose this keyboard instead of the bespoke one.

It’s a Bluetooth Keyboard and it runs on 2 AAA batteries that are very easy to fit into the elevated rest at the back of the keyboard.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The firm rubberised cover removes to reveal a traditional keyboard with full sized, light touch keys. There’s a set of slightly shorter media keys across the top row that double as function keys.

It’s very comfortable to type on despite it’s small, portable size.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

But here’s the fun part. The cover is really the key to this keyboard. Applying or removing the cover turns the keyboard on and off. Its cleverness though is in its mechanics not its electronics.

As you can see it folds in half to create a portable tablet stand!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Now this tablet stand can be set to any angle for any tablet!

This overcomes the restrictions of other arrangements like:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I have personally been using this keyboard for nearly a year when I travel. It is an absolute saviour in the hotel room for blazing out emails.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This keyboard will work with practically any tablet that has Bluetooth (I can’t think of one that doesn’t).

It is shown in these pictures with the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2, but it is also an accessory that I would recommend for use with:

It is specifically compatible with Windows 8 tablets too.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It’s in stock and available for immediate dispatch.

Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 Bluetooth Keyboard

May
27
2013

Here are some up close pictures of the newly available Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 Bluetooth Keyboard and ThinkPad Fitted Sleeve.

This new accessory is both a Bluetooth keyboard and a stand for the Tablet 2.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It connects and charges via a micro USB cable as seen below.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A touch based scrolling mouse pointer is located in the centre of the keyboard. This is a much more usable arrangement than the old traditional red pointing stick that has been synonymous with ThinkPad laptops for years.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The keyboard does not physically connect to the ThinkPad Tablet 2, but it does have a pop up kickstand that helps mount the tablet at a usable angle. There’s not adjusting this angle though (same problem as the surface kickstand).

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The keyboard fits nicely with the ThinkPad Tablet 2 in this ThinkPad Fitted Sleeve accessory.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Overall a couple of essential and stylish accessories for this very impressive Windows 8 tablet!

New improved N-Trig Pen finally here

May
21
2013

Seeing the Fujitsu Stylistic Q702 pre-production sample late last year we were delighted to see a new and improved N-Trig pen. Unfortunately when the stock arrived we found that the old N-Trig pen reared its ugly head and was shipping with the Q702.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The good news is that the new N-Trig pen is now available! The new pen features a couple of subtle but important improvements.

  1. A new finer less “clicky” pen tip
  2. Two buttons.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

That’s it. Simple but effective. The thing is that the Q702 is a near perfect all round Windows 8 tablet. Unbeatable performance, great battery life, unmatched connectivity and features, robust and serviceable design that was all let down by not the best digitizer pen.

The new pen just takes it that much closer to the perfect road warriors tablet.

In the box you’ll find the pen, a Quadruple A (AAAA) battery, spare pen tip, pen tip removal tool and a pen tether.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We should also mention that the N-Trig pen fits into the pen bay on the keyboard of the Q702. The pen also works with any other N-Trig tablets such as the Fujitsu Stylistic Q572, Motion CL900/CL910, Dell Latitude ST and many more.

Please check with us for compatibility before you buy! New Fujitsu 2 button N-Trig pen found here.
