Since HP dropped the Tm2, Fujitsu are now the only company to offer a Tablet PC with dedicated graphics.

The NVidia Optimus solution is particularly clever because when it’s not needed, the tablet will automatically switch over to the Intel HD 3000 on board graphics chip. That means that NVidia 3D graphics power is there when you need it (gaming, AutoCAD, Solidworks, 3D graphics work), but not wasting battery life when you don’t (spread sheets, email, web etc).

The first video is very technical and detailed. If you’re looking for more of the actual usage experience, skip video 1 and start with videos 2 and 3.

Video 2 shows the Q550 engaged in web browsing, handwriting recognition, Outlook and OneNote. The windows touch pack is also briefly demonstrated.

The last video shows the Stylistic Q550 in video playback on YouTube, using the USA Today news app and Netflix (not available in Australia). Finally the last part shows the boot-up time.

So I spent a couple of months with the TH550 without the pen and I was very impressed with the size, shape, weight and performance. The TH500 feels more solid than a standard netbook, and you’d expect that with a Fujitsu product.

I decided not to review it on video without the pen (as most Tablet PC users know – Active Digitizer Pen is for work, touch is for play). That said, our new TH550 demo stock arrives tomorrow (with pens), so a video is on its way real soon!

The n-trig touch screen performed well once I removed the unfortunately bundled Norton Anti-everything (It’s simply not designed for an Intel Core i3 tablet PC sorry Norton). N-trig have designed a swag of multi-finger gestures and swipes which I’m sure will be seriously useful. Want to see them?

I found the three finger “show all windows” gesture particularly useful for touch. Some of the four finger gestures like the screen capture move are a bit harder to achieve since you need to use 2 hands – tablets are often one handed devices. The windows 7 screen snipping tool does a much better job of this anyway.

In our opinion, the Lifebook T900 is the top of the range convertible Tablet PC with it’s 13.3” screen and Intel Core i7 processor. It’s not as portable as a slate Tablet PC, but it comes with the convenience of both a powerful laptop and the input flexibility of Wacom Touch / Active Digitizer Tablet PC.

Our other favourite Tablet PC manufacturer – Fujitsu – has informally announced that they too have some slates on the way. The as yes unnamed Fujitsu slate will run Intel’s new Oak Trail Tablet processor and will weigh around 700 grams!

Fujitsu only recently dropped their Stylistic slate tablet PC series, so it’s good to see them coming back to the slate form factor with some innovative products.

The first Fujitsu tablet to come out with multi-touch was the T4310, and it has now been followed up by the T900, the replacement for the beefy T5010 Tablet PC. Fujitsu continue to innovate with pen and touch computing and are one of the clear leaders in the Tablet PC field.

The following user give a good demonstration of the T4310. Although this user points out a couple of the shortfalls of the product, he still gives it a big thumbs up… And so do we.

Part 2 in particular shows how the capacitive touch screen works with OneNote 2010. It makes navigating your workspace super easy!

You won’t find a better demonstration of the combination of digitiser pen and touch. As you will see in this video, touch nicely augments the functionality of the pen.

Touch does not eliminate the need for the pen however, and as you’ll see a digitizer pen is pretty essential for serious Windows based tablets.
