Encountering Tablet PCs in the wild is becoming a daily event. The following video from Motion Computing shows staff at the Salford Royal Hospital in the UK using the Motion C5 MCA on their daily rounds.

It is a very interesting demonstration of the efficiencies that can be gained by adopting Tablet PCs.

They key is that Tablet PCs and MCAs can be easily taken into places where laptops and netbooks don’t fit well – where you don’t have the convenience of a flat surface and a chair to use.

This demonstration shows the new Intel Core 2 Duo Motion F5 running a Windows 7 release candidate. We show the ins and outs of the new tablet input panel alongside the Windows Vista version.

Installing windows 7 on the Motion F5 was a snap! There were no tricks to it. Just connect an external DVD or USB drive, install Windows and off you go… Grab the standard drivers and software from the Motion website.

Whereas Atom based tablets will struggle to run Windows 7, the new F5 (and C5 of course) is more than capable of running it smoothly. Take a look for yourself:

I started working in the office this morning at 9:00 AM on the Motion J3400, but I forgot to bring in my power cable after the ABITE expo on the weekend.

So here I am at 1:30PM and there is 30% battery charge remaining. So that is 60% of one of the 2 batteries on board.

At this rate, I’ll be going flat at close the 3:00 PM mark at 6 hours.

I have not optimised my use to make battery life claims. I haven’t stopped yet for lunch and the screen is at full brightness. I’ve been docked with an external monitor and a wireless keyboard all day. WiFi is on and has been in use constantly. I haven’t been in standby or hibernate at all.

So this is why the Motion J3400 is a brilliant choice for field users. If you need a lightweight Tablet PC that can go all day without charging, then you should look at the J3400.

Of course with the hot swap dual battery setup on the J3400 you needn’t let a battery going flat stop you anyway… Just have a spare – they only take an hour and a half to charge!

Tablet PCs allow you to maximise your working time by enabling you to use a fully functional PC in places where you generally wouldn’t use a laptop.

Brush up your handwriting skills, because you’re going to need them again. Tablet PCs are great productivity tools.
