Fujitsu Lifebook T902 – Convertible Tablets Are Back!

We received some brand new Fujitsu Lifebook T902 factory installed with Windows 8 on them last week. Personally I left the convertible form factor behind last year when I moved from my powerhouse Fujitsu T901 over to the Motion F5t as the computer that I use on a daily basis.

However a close up look at the new T902 has tempted me to switch back!

The T902 feels much thinner than the old T901 and the finish is just out of this world in comparison.

Some of the T902 highlights:

  • 13.3” Widescreen, 1600×900 resolution, outdoor IPS display – glass to the edge with no more bezel!
  • Windows 8 Professional (Supports Windows 7 too)
  • 3rd Generation Intel Core i7 processor!
  • 8Gb RAM
  • 640Gb Hard Drive (Can be swapped easily for an SSD)
  • Extended battery options for up to 10 hours continuous use!

Here’s some close up pics from the desk!

And here is a comparison between the old Fujitsu Lifebook T901 and the new Fujitsu Lifebook T902:

More on the Fujitsu Lifebook T580 / TH550

I’ve been a bit tardy about following up my last post on the Fujitsu Lifebook TH550 / TH580 model. Unfortunately the pre-production sample I was sent came without the most important work tool on a Tablet PC – the Active Digitizer Pen! Here’s a preview of what I’m talking about:

Fujitsu T580 product demonstration

So I spent a couple of months with the TH550 without the pen and I was very impressed with the size, shape, weight and performance. The TH500 feels more solid than a standard netbook, and you’d expect that with a Fujitsu product.

I decided not to review it on video without the pen (as most Tablet PC users know – Active Digitizer Pen is for work, touch is for play). That said, our new TH550 demo stock arrives tomorrow (with pens), so a video is on its way real soon!

The n-trig touch screen performed well once I removed the unfortunately bundled Norton Anti-everything (It’s simply not designed for an Intel Core i3 tablet PC sorry Norton). N-trig have designed a swag of multi-finger gestures and swipes which I’m sure will be seriously useful. Want to see them?

N-Trig touch screen gestures

I found the three finger “show all windows” gesture particularly useful for touch. Some of the four finger gestures like the screen capture move are a bit harder to achieve since you need to use 2 hands – tablets are often one handed devices. The windows 7 screen snipping tool does a much better job of this anyway.

More on the TH550 / T580 soon. Demonstrations will be available from next week. Contact us for more on 03 9999 1601.

Does the Motion Computing LE1700 Replace the HP TC1100?

Jul

2008

The HP TC1100 was the carrot that got us into Tablet PCs. In fact, the first Tablet PC that we had was the woeful HP TC1000. It was terribly underpowered with a Transmeta Crusoe Processor. It left a bad taste for many.

Fortunately, HP quickly got their act together and fixed the TC1000 by putting a decent Intel Centrino processor in it. The result was the TC1100, which is still today a very capable and sought after Tablet PC.

What was so good about the HP TC 1100 you might wonder? Well, it was the only Tablet PC to come in a Hybrid form factor. It could be both a convertible tablet (With a keyboard attached) and a slate.

In slate mode, you had a powerful and lightweight portable device weighing just over 1 kg. With the keyboard attached, you had a Tablet PC that also functioned like a laptop.

Unfortunately HP decided that the TC1100 wasn’t important enough in the scheme of things. They continue to develop Tablet PCs, but have taken the safe road of laptop style convertibles like the HP 2710P.

Enter Motion Computing. To be honest, Motion have been around in Tablet PCs since the very early days. So we may be a little slow in reporting this, but we think that Motion have had an alternative to the TC1100 form factor for quite a while. It’s the LE1700 with convertible keyboard.

We put together the following video to demonstrate the similarities.
