Fujitsu Stylistic Case now available for Q572 and Q702

2013

Back in April we previewed a field case for the Fujitsu Stylistic Q702 called the Stylistic Case. It’s a protective silicone bumper field case with a shoulder strap and hand strap. In our experience it is by far the most comfortable field case available.

The good news is that the Stylistic Case is now also available for the Q572. It looks much the same as the Q702 Stylistic Case, just a bit smaller.

The flexible rubber X-Strap is by far the most comfortable arrangement on this type of case.

As with the Q702, there’s a pen holder at the top of the case too- something that is sorely needed for the Q572.

You can see on this last show that there is a cut out at the bottom of the case that allows full connectivity with the Q572 docking station. These cases do not come off easily – and that is a good thing.

That by itself is a perfect demonstration of how Fujitsu get the little things right, and that is what makes corporate tablet deployments work!

With this case, the Q572 like the Q702 is a very good option for a Windows 8 field tablet where IP ratings are not required.

Fujitsu Q572 Windows 8 Tablet PC

2013

The Fujitsu Stylistic Q572 would not win a Windows 8 Tablet beauty pageant. That is par for the course with Fujitsu. Since they have been doing tablets for over 20 years they uniquely value function over form.

The Stylistic Q572 looks like the little brother of the Stylistic Q702. The button layouts and controls are identical. The finish is the same.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

There are some important reasons to consider the Q572 for your corporate Windows 8 tablet deployment where function is more likely to be important. Firstly, the Q572 can be deployed with Windows 8 Pro or Windows 7 Professional.

The Stylistic Q572 has a bright 10.1” 1366 x 768 screen with a matte finish. While most manufacturers of tablets this size take the safe option and go with the Intel Atom Z2670 processor, Fujitsu chose the Z-60 from AMD for the Q572.

The Z-60 is no Core i7 of course, but in a number of ways it is far superior to the Atom equivalent. A couple of points of note about the Z-60:

  • It runs 32 or 64bit – The Atom is a strictly 32 bit affair
  • Graphics performance in 2D and 3D leaves the Atom for dead
  • Battery life is about on par.

What I find disappointing with Atom Z2670 based tablets like the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 and the HP ElitePad 900 is that simple 3D animations are slow, blocky and horrible. With the Q572 3D animations are rendered smoothly. Rendering a complex CAD drawing in a PDF file is also much faster on the Q572 thanks to its far superior graphics performance.

Fujitsu’s 20 year tablet history shows though with 2 high and security features that can help IT departments to deploy high security tablets without burdening end users.

There’s a Smart Card reader:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And a fingerprint reader.

Both allow users to maintain a complete password (and It departments to enforce it) while allowing them to bypass the drudgery of having to type it in 30 times a day (they can still use their password if they prefer).

The Smart Card reader will no doubt generate interest from single sign on deployments like those used in hospitals.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

There’s an array of easy to access full sized ports. 2x USB2, HDMI, Audio, SD Card Reader.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

There is a docking cradle connector on the left side. The optional cradle adds charging capabilities, 3 USB 2 ports and Ethernet.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Unlike any other 10” tablet the battery on the Q572 is removable and replaceable. It is expected to last around 6 hours.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

One last an important thing that you can see in this close up. The Q572 is field serviceable like the Q702. Most tablets now are glued, not screwed together. That means that a technician cannot open the tablet to service in the field. In other words if something goes wrong, you’re going to be without the Tablet.

Thanks to Fujitsu valuing function over form, the Q572 can be serviced on site and that significantly separates it from any other lightweight 10" tablet on the market.

New improved N-Trig Pen finally here

Seeing the Fujitsu Stylistic Q702 pre-production sample late last year we were delighted to see a new and improved N-Trig pen. Unfortunately when the stock arrived we found that the old N-Trig pen reared its ugly head and was shipping with the Q702.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The good news is that the new N-Trig pen is now available! The new pen features a couple of subtle but important improvements.

  1. A new finer less “clicky” pen tip
  2. Two buttons.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

That’s it. Simple but effective. The thing is that the Q702 is a near perfect all round Windows 8 tablet. Unbeatable performance, great battery life, unmatched connectivity and features, robust and serviceable design that was all let down by not the best digitizer pen.

The new pen just takes it that much closer to the perfect road warriors tablet.

In the box you’ll find the pen, a Quadruple A (AAAA) battery, spare pen tip, pen tip removal tool and a pen tether.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We should also mention that the N-Trig pen fits into the pen bay on the keyboard of the Q702. The pen also works with any other N-Trig tablets such as the Fujitsu Stylistic Q572, Motion CL900/CL910, Dell Latitude ST and many more.

Please check with us for compatibility before you buy! New Fujitsu 2 button N-Trig pen found here.

Fujitsu Q702 Stylistic Case Video

2013

Following on from the pictures we posted last month below is a video of the Stylistic Case for the Fujitsu Q702.

The Stylistic Case offers good bumper protection for the Q702. The case is slim line, tight fitting and not easily removed. That means that it is more likely to be left on than removed.

The case allows easy access to clip on the keyboard so it doesn’t limit the functionality of the Q702. An integrated soft rubber hand strap on the back makes it easy to hold for long inspection and audit jobs. There’s also a shoulder strap supplied with the case.

Lastly, the Stylistic Case adds a pen holder to the tablet part of the Q702. This case makes the Q702 an especially compelling tablet for field workers.

We’ve been using the Fujitsu Q702 for a couple of months now and I think it’s probably the best corporate hybrid tablet on the market this year. I’ve finally got the video online and that should explain why!

Fujitsu Lifebook T902 – Convertible Tablets Are Back!

Apr

2013

We received some brand new Fujitsu Lifebook T902 factory installed with Windows 8 on them last week. Personally I left the convertible form factor behind last year when I moved from my powerhouse Fujitsu T901 over to the Motion F5t as the computer that I use on a daily basis.

However a close up look at the new T902 has tempted me to switch back!

The T902 feels much thinner than the old T901 and the finish is just out of this world in comparison.

Some of the T902 highlights:

  • 13.3” Widescreen, 1600×900 resolution, outdoor IPS display – glass to the edge with no more bezel!
  • Windows 8 Professional (Supports Windows 7 too)
  • 3rd Generation Intel Core i7 processor!
  • 8Gb RAM
  • 640Gb Hard Drive (Can be swapped easily for an SSD)
  • Extended battery options for up to 10 hours continuous use!

Here’s some close up pics from the desk!

Fujitsu Tablets–A Tablet History Lesson…

Dec

2012

The Fujitsu Stylistic Q702 is now available to order from the Tablet PC Store!

If you read mainstream computer news websites you might be tempted to believe that Apple invented the Tablet in 2010. Others who are old enough to remember might recall the Apple Newton, a small handheld first released in 1993.

Believe it or not, Japanese computer manufacturer Fujitsu can boast a Tablet history that goes back further than that. Fujitsu’s mobile computing and Tablet history goes back to 1989!

In 1989 they partnered with soon to be acquired Poqet Computer Corporation to launch a small handheld computer that kicked of Fujitsu’s long, successful and continuous history with mobility. Then in 1991 Fujitsu and Poqet launched a slate tablet that cemented their place in business slate Tablet computing.

As you’ll see in the gallery below, Fujitsu tablets have been with us at the cutting edge of mobility all the way through the nineties, the naughties and they will be with us on into the next decade with products like the exceptional Fujitsu Stylistic Q702 tablet and Windows 8.

For more information on Fujitsu’s tablet history, visit their website here.

So if you weren’t aware that Fujitsu make computers, you are now. In fact in the industry they are know for their exceptional Japanese reliability and quality. They’re also a true innovator, not just a marketing copycat company.

An important point to note is the fact that companies do not have to capture the minds of consumers to make exceptional and profitable products. Fujitsu have been enabling companies to go mobile for over 20 years, but your kids have probably never heard of them. Nor do they need to!

Take a look at this long list of Tablet innovations:

  • 1993: First pen tablet to use an integrated wireless LAN
  • 1993: First pen tablet to offer four different operating systems
  • 1993: First pen tablet to use a PCMCIA Type III hard drive as the main storage device

New N-Trig G4 Pen for the Fujitsu Q702

The Fujitsu Stylistic Q702 Tablet PC is now available to order from the Tablet PC Store!

We recently took another look at a prototype of the upcoming Fujitsu Q702 and were intrigued to find a new N-Trig Active Digitizer Pen attached!

Here’s a picture of the new N-Trig G4 DuoSense Pen from the Fujitsu Stylistic Q702:

Fujitsu_Q702_N-Trig_Pen

This new pen is a major breakthrough for the Q702 and N-Trig tablets everywhere!

Long term pen tablet users like us have used the Wacom Active Digitizer Pen and going to the previous N-Trig pens was generally a poor experience.

Here’s what N-Trig have changed on the new G4 pen:

  • Pen tip action is now much finer
  • There is no “clicky” feel and no noise
  • Eraser function is available with the extra pen button
  • End of the pen is rounded and feels much nicer.

When you put those refinements together with the high performance “Ivy Bridge” Intel Core i5 processor that is in the Q702 you have a pen experience that is on par with the Wacom Active Digitizer Pen. Wacom has been the gold standard on Microsoft Windows pen tablets for over 10 years.

The Q702’s N-Trig G4 Pen is still powered by a AAAA battery which will last a few months of use. But the upside of Fujitsu’s selection of N-Trig is that the technology is usually much better calibrated that the Wacom equivalent.

Fujitsu Stylistic Q702 Sneak Peek

Aug

2012

The Fujitsu Stylistic Q702 Tablet PC is now available to order from the Tablet PC Store!

Exciting times for Windows Tablet PCs! Today we got to spend a few moments with a pre-production sample of the upcoming Fujitsu Stylistic Q702 today.

I stress that this mock-up was very raw! In fact it was so raw that the keyboard was basically a solid block of plastic! However the tablet itself was working and it was exceptionally fast even with the third generation Intel Core i3 “Ivy Bridge” processor. Core i5 is expected to be the preferred option for most customers.

What we love about the Fujitsu Stylistic Q702:

  • The brilliant hybrid clip on keyboard functions as a dock with VGA out, USB, power input and a removable hot swap battery!
  • The removable battery in the keyboard charges the tablet when it is plugged in for almost limitless runtime!
  • The active digitizer pen is an N-Trig, but it was actually very nice to use (no doubt thanks to the Ivy Bridge beast inside)
  • SSDs will come in 64Gb to 256Gb sizes, 4Gb RAM is standard
  • HDMI, USB 3 and USB 2 ports are on board
  • There are 4 user programmable buttons on one side
  • Whilst 4G options will be available overseas, no false claims will be made about the Q702 in Australia due to our different 4G network! Our models will be high speed 3G HSPA (Next G compatible)
  • The wide viewing (IPS) 11.6” 1366×768 screen is protected by Gorilla Glass with a non reflective finish
  • There is a fingerprint reader and TPM chip making the Q702 ideal for secure corporate use!

The wide viewing angle high resolution screen looks beautiful and the non-reflective finish makes the Q702 ideal for travellers and road warriors. The powered hybrid keyboard is a stroke of genius (borrowed from ASUS no doubt), harking back to the days of the amazing HP TC1100… only much better!

I was initially disappointed to see the N-Trig pen hanging from the tether, however my disappointment was quickly dispelled with use. It’s no Wacom, but a good portion of my reservations about N-Trig may actually be related to the slow Intel Atom “Oak Trail” tablets that we’ve seen them on.

Handwriting recognition with the N-Trig on the Q702 was flawless and note-taking felt easy. In other words, I could be comfortable with N-Trig on the Q702. There is a slot for the pen in the keyboard dock allowing the tablet to remain amazingly slim but strong.

I can’t wait to get my hands onto a production Q702. The Q702 should arrive within the next month or so, well before the Windows 8 launch!

Fujitsu T901 Convertible Tablet PC with NVIDIA Dedicated Graphics is real, and it’s in stock!

Oct

2011

Back in March there was some debate about wether the new Fujitsu T901 would really come out with NVIDIA graphics. Well it did, and here it is!

Since HP dropped the Tm2, Fujitsu are now the only company to offer a Tablet PC with dedicated graphics.

The NVidia Optimus solution is particularly clever because when it’s not needed, the tablet will automatically switch over to the Intel HD 3000 on board graphics chip. That means that NVidia 3D graphics power is there when you need it (gaming, AutoCAD, Solidworks, 3D graphics work), but not wasting battery life when you don’t (spread sheets, email, web etc).

The current model available is the Intel Core i5 NVidia Optimus model. Specs and purchasing details can be found here:

Fujitsu T901 - with NVIDIA Optimus dedicated graphics!

Out tests so far show that it is as expected… Awesome!
