Back in March there was some debate about wether the new Fujitsu T901 would really come out with NVIDIA graphics. Well it did, and here it is!

Since HP dropped the Tm2, Fujitsu are now the only company to offer a Tablet PC with dedicated graphics.

The NVidia Optimus solution is particularly clever because when it’s not needed, the tablet will automatically switch over to the Intel HD 3000 on board graphics chip. That means that NVidia 3D graphics power is there when you need it (gaming, AutoCAD, Solidworks, 3D graphics work), but not wasting battery life when you don’t (spread sheets, email, web etc).

The current model available is the Intel Core i5 NVidia Optimus model. Specs and purchasing details can be found here:

Fujitsu T901 with NVidia Dedicated Graphics

Out tests so far show that it is as expected… Awesome!

There are two variations due for Australian release in April and June 2011.

Updated features for April model include:

USB 3.0 – For faster connectivity to USB devices (Memory keys, Hard Drive etc)

Better screen bezel – The space between the edge of the LED screen and the bezel has been widened making it easier to get into the corners… The bezel also has a gentler angle to allow your fingers into the corners.

Slightly revised design but using the same battery and accessories as the T900

“Sandy Bridge” processor – an improved and updated version of the powerful Intel Core i7.

Updated for June model (in addition to the above):

NVIDIA Optimus dedicated graphics

For several years now, there has only been one Tablet that offered integrated graphics (HP Tm2), but it wasn’t up to business standards. For customers who wanted to do things like run AutoCAD, Advanced Video Editing or Graphics work there were simply no great options… until now.

The new T901 will be the only Tablet PC available with dedicated graphics (HP Tm2 is no longer sold in Australia). Coupling the NVIDIA Optimus GPU with the Intel Core i7 should make the T901 the most powerful Tablet PC on the market by far.

Take a look at a preview of the T901 below:

For detailed specs, visit the Fujitsu US website. Bear in mind that the Australian configurations have not yet been announced and selected configurations from this document will be available.

Bright 400 nit display

Active Digitizer (smart pen) and 4 point multi-touch

Weighs around 700 grams

Removable / user replaceable battery and 8 hour battery life

Smart card and fingerprint reader security built in.

I’ve been a bit tardy about following up my last post on the Fujitsu Lifebook TH550 / TH580 model. Unfortunately the pre-production sample I was sent came without the most important work tool on a Tablet PC – the Active Digitizer Pen! Here’s a preview of what I’m talking about:

Fujitsu T580 product demonstration

So I spent a couple of months with the TH550 without the pen and I was very impressed with the size, shape, weight and performance. The TH500 feels more solid than a standard netbook, and you’d expect that with a Fujitsu product.

I decided not to review it on video without the pen (as most Tablet PC users know – Active Digitizer Pen is for work, touch is for play). That said, our new TH550 demo stock arrives tomorrow (with pens), so a video is on its way real soon!

The n-trig touch screen performed well once I removed the unfortunately bundled Norton Anti-everything (It’s simply not designed for an Intel Core i3 tablet PC sorry Norton). N-trig have designed a swag of multi-finger gestures and swipes which I’m sure will be seriously useful. Want to see them?

N-Trig touch screen gestures

I found the three finger “show all windows” gesture particularly useful for touch. Some of the four finger gestures like the screen capture move are a bit harder to achieve since you need to use 2 hands – tablets are often one handed devices. The windows 7 screen snipping tool does a much better job of this anyway.

More on the TH550 / T580 soon. Demonstrations will be available from next week. Contact us for more on 03 9999 1601.

Here’s a slightly eccentric video intro of the Fujitsu Stylistic Q550 from Fujitsu’s design engineer Meinolf Althaus.

In our opinion, the Lifebook T900 is the top of the range convertible Tablet PC with it’s 13.3” screen and Intel Core i7 processor. It’s not as portable as a slate Tablet PC, but it comes with the convenience of both a powerful laptop and the input flexibility of Wacom Touch / Active Digitizer Tablet PC.

We now have the entire Fujitsu Lifebook range available for demonstrations all over Australia. That includes the Lifebook T900, TH700 and TH550. Call us for a time on 03 9999 1601.

Ok, so we’ve been a little bit enamoured with the new Motion CL900 this week, but the good news is that Motion Computing are not the only company showing of slick, lightweight slate Tablet PCs like we’ve always imagined they could be!

Our other favourite Tablet PC manufacturer – Fujitsu – has informally announced that they too have some slates on the way. The as yes unnamed Fujitsu slate will run Intel’s new Oak Trail Tablet processor and will weigh around 700 grams!

Fujitsu only recently dropped their Stylistic slate tablet PC series, so it’s good to see them coming back to the slate form factor with some innovative products.

More details at Engadget.

Early indications are that we should expect to see this tablet in Q2 this year. Looking forward to it!
