Why Electranet in South Australia uses the Motion F5v

Jul

2012

You’ve all heard me going on for 20 minutes about why I use the Motion F5v, but what do I know? I’m just a humble Tablet geek! Winking smile

David Peters from South Australia’s high voltage transmission company Electranet took us out onto a 275,000 Volt substation to show us why they also chose the Motion F5v for their field asset inspection teams.

The following video gives a great insight into why so many of Australia’s utility companies have chosen Motion tablets – especially the F5v – for their high demand field jobs.

Electranet uses the Motion F5v for field asset inspections

In case you missed it, the standout features that led Electranet to choose the Motion F5v were:

  1. Motion’s BOE Hydis AFFS+ outdoor display with View Anywhere – it’s still unmatched
  2. Built rugged and ready for onsite use – all over South Australia – from Olympic Dam to Adelaide City
  3. Hot swap fast charging batteries will let you go 24×7 on just 2 batteries
  4. Easy to access integrated barcode reader
  5. Powerful Intel Core i7 processor and standard Windows 7 Professional – allows Electranet to run standard Windows applications.

Tablet PC have helped many of Australia’s largest utility companies – such as Electranet, SP Ausnet, Jemena, Egron Energy, Melbourne Water and many more – to successfully deploy Tablet PCs for their field users.

If you’re still using pen and paper to collect data in the field, you’re falling behind! Contact us to find out how organisations like Electranet are reaping the benefits of Windows 7 Tablet PCs.

Samsung Series 7 Slate – Video 3 – The Amazingly Thin Hardware

Apr

2012

Everyone wants their tablet to be ultra-thin and ultra-light, but until now that meant compromising on hardware. You either had to have a Tablet OS that can’t do much more than light work and gaming, or you had a tablet that was just too slow to be practical.

Well here is the Samsung Series 7 Slate breaking all the rules. I personally never imagined that it would be possible (at least not in the next few years) to pack an Intel Core i5 (Generation 2 Sandy Bridge) processor into a fully fledged computer around about the size of an iPad.

The Intel Core i5 is for all intents and purposes infinitely more powerful than the ARM processors that are found on consumer tablets and smart phones. And yet Samsung have somehow wedged it into a package that makes an ultrabook look like a brick!

As you’ll see in the video, the Samsung Series 7 Slate boots into Windows 7 cold in 20 seconds flat! Of course you’ll find that you hardly ever reboot in Windows 7 since Standby gives you a reliable instant on experience in one or two seconds. The S7S will run for quite a few days in standby mode thanks to improved power management in Sandy Bridge.

Even with all that power you can expect 4.5 to 5 hours of insanely productive real use time (not measured by watching movies or other general time wasting) and a super fast 2 hour 10 minute charge time.

A full sized USB port means that you can plug in any device. Printer, keyboard, mouse, USB stick, USB hard drive, Serial port adapter, GPS, Phone or iPad?! It’s a PC after all, you don’t need to plug it into one to make it work… it is one!

There is a HDMI out port built right into the device (no expensive adapters needed, just a standard cable) for connecting to a projector or TV and a handy Micro SD card slot for expanding your storage.

Three of our four configurations come with a Docking Station and Bluetooth Keyboard out of the box. We take a look at that in the video below. Enjoy the Samsung Series 7 Slate.

Samsung Series 7 Slate – Video 2– Software

2012

In the last few weeks we’ve been intrigued with the Consumer Preview of Windows 8 (Don’t forget, the Samsung Series 7 Slate was designed for Windows 8), but in the meantime Windows 7 has many software features that will surprise you!

Of course with the Samsung Series 7 Slate there is the ability to run full versions of standard office programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

But think about the applications of annotating within those programs by hand – scribbling out an email, marking up a spread sheet or drawing on a PowerPoint slide.

Then there is the handwriting recognition capability that will blow your mind. It is the most amazing way to enter data. And don’t forget the Flicks and touch gestures that you’ll find in Windows 7. And if you haven’t discovered Microsoft OneNote on an Active Digitizer Tablet yet, it’s time to get productive!

So in this video, we show you how you can make the Samsung Series 7 Slate an all-in-one replace your laptop device thanks to the uncompromised full version Windows 7 and Microsoft Office software.

And yes, the Samsung Series 7 Slate and a full complement of accessories is available now via our website or by contacting us for a demonstration. A number of models are available including a specific corporate version with Windows 7 Professional.
