We got a chance to get our hands on a new 12 inch rugged Motion Computing tablet last month. It’s called the Motion R12.
Take a look at Motion’s R12 “platform overview” video here:
The R12 will replace the J3600 as Motion’s 12” tablet for field workers. It includes the latest generation Intel Core i5 and i7 “Haswell” processors for far better battery life and maximum performance.
Compared to the J-Series (J3400, J3500, J3600) the R12 is a lot thinner and lighter – a welcome feature for a big rugged tablet. It retains the hot-swap battery capability for 24×7 operations. Mobile 4G / LTE will be standard on the R12 as well as the latest Wifi and Bluetooth 4 wireless.
Like the J-Series, the R12 will ship with an innovative keyboard stand as seen in the video. Other integrated options include a 2D Bar Code scanner, RFID and a Serial Port.
It’s tough of course too. The 1920×1080 screen is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3. It’s drop tested to 4 feet and IP54 rated, bringing it up to the standard of the venerable Motion F5te.
10 finger touch ensures Windows 8 support, but the R12 also supports Windows 7. A new Wacom pen completes the package.
As always with Motion, a complete array of accessories have already been conceived and developed including desktop and vehicle docks, mounting solutions, carry options, network enable lockable charging docks and more. Demonstrations will be available around next week!
