Keyboard shortcuts are simple commands commonly using 2 or more keys pressed at the same time to execute a command through the keyboard. While they are rarely necessary to complete a task, as almost everything they do can be performed with a mouse, they are popular because they can do specialised jobs much faster than using a mouse, even with skilled computer users.
Many users still find it difficult to use keyboard shortcuts because they struggle memorising all the different combinations, and changing their habits to incorporate using them. Once you learn to use keyboard shortcuts, and your habits start changing, you can do big data entry work, or simple text editing, with great time savings.
Learning any new task takes time. In the long term, the time you will save if you learn to use keyboard shortcuts, and implement them into your workflow, will get you one step closer to being a Surface Pro.
