Austin TX based Motion Computing quietly launched a new iteration of the popular F5t rugged tablet yesterday. The F5te is a minor update that enables Motion to ship the F5twe with Windows 8 from factory. The F5t currently runs Windows 8 well, but now with 10 finger touch support it can ship out with Windows 8 pre-installed.
It would be hard to notice any changed by looking at the F5te over the current F5t. It still has the same powerful 3rd generation Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 processors. Still the same rugged IP54 MIL810G design. The F5te will work with existing in-vehicle and desktop docking solutions as well as pens, chargers and batteries.
New RFID Module for F5 series tablets
An interesting addition to the massive range of options with the F5 series is a modular UHF RFID option. Whereas the current inbuilt RFID reader is short range (NFC style), this reader will all you to read RFID tags at up to 3 meters (depending on the tag type). Perfect for retail and inventory solutions.
This module will work with all existing F5 series tablets including F5v, F5t and F5te.
Here is the RFID tech spec:
Two frequencies ranges
– 866.7MHz (Supports ISO 18000-6B, -6C)
– 912-925MHz (Supports AEI, EPC Class 1 Gen 1, EPC Class 1 Gen 2, ISO 18000-6B, -6C)
An API is available for software integrators.

Here’s the hands on review of the Motion F5t that we put out last year:
Over 5 years we have deployed thousands of F5 tablets all over Australia and they continue to be the best selling rugged Tablet solution in Australia despite some stiff competition from impressive Tablets like the Panasonic Toughbook G1.
What I can say for certain is that no other Australian company has been involved in as many successful Motion tablet roll-outs as Tablet PC Solutions! Call us to find out why! 1300 110 101.
