HP recently released the new Tx2000 which is in very similar to the entry level Tx1000 Tablet PC.
The major drawback of the Tx1000 was the lack of a digitising tablet. The Tx1000 only has a touch screen, which is not very practical in a full size tablet PC because in normal writing posture, your hand will create multiple touch points on the screen, making it difficult to use.
Hat’s off to HP who listened and built a digitising tablet and a touch screen into the Tx2000. The tablet pen is a battery powered model and not a Wacom pressure sensitive digitiser, no doubt to keep the price down.
Correction: This Tablet PC does use a Wacom capacitive touch digitising system. The pen does not use a battery and the touch screen function works with a nice light touch.
HP have released a video series for the launch featuring Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs (Discovery channel).
Not really sure if it’ll sell more Tx2000s but it’s a bit of fun anyway!
Check out the full video series here.

I recently bought a HP TX2029AU, which I found very slick. The drawbacks so far being, in order of significance to me:
1. Screen graphics stay on after they should disappear, and Internet Explorer seems to jam with a dull screen on occassion, and also jam up on idle preventing you from typing in a search query for about 5 seconds – this could be a Vista bug – very frustrating.
2. Fan noise; seems to vary for no apparent reason, even when idle reading a webpage.
3. When you rotate the screen in tablet mode, it sometimes jumps quickly between rotations and then jams up. Having a few seconds delay before automatically rotating would fix this I suspect (sounds like a HP patch is needed).
4. If they battery goes flat and you re power-up, Windows resumes, but the wireless won’t reconnect, even if you try to repair connection. However, if you turn the wireless off & on again, it works again (sound like a HP patch is needed).
5. High gloss cover – shows fingerprints.
6. Shiny screen – hard to see with strong light behind you.
Other than the above its a great device, with a good keyboard feel & touchpad. Hopefully a few Miscrosoft & HP updates will address most of the issues I’ve mentioned above.

HELLO….I purchased a HP Pavillion tx 2000 Model tx2514Ca. My problem is the fan noise….as i open the laptop the noise at the fan doesn’t stop until i put it off. In that same sight too it easily gets hot, i even purchase a cooling pad for it but still it gts hot and the fan is really noisy it annoys and irritates me. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

I wanted to replace my macbook with this sleek little tablet that offers just ’bout everything – yes, i like to carry my dvd burner with me xD What I absolutely dislike and what made me keep my good ole white macbook is the incredible fan noise! This added to the sound of the keyboard makes it unusable in lectures.
I didn’t realize it at home, but when I flipped the cover open and startet the little hp tx2000 tablet at university just about everyone around me starred at me as if I just started a turbine 🙁
The fan won’t slow down or get any less noisy. I tried setting everything to lowest power in Vista to no avail. I tried setting Powersafe in Ubuntu’s CPU scaling to the lowest possible mhz, no effect, the fan just acts like a turbine all time long.
Called HP who told me to get a firmware update, which I installed correctly (checked with the HP service officer) but nothing changed.
If you’re in a loud environment, it’s a great laptop. The build-in speakers sure can overcome the fan noise. But if you need it quiet, get something else.

I’ve heard a number of people complain about the fan noise on this series. Do you have the 2.4Ghz model?
The AMD processor seems to be the culprit in generating the heat. So I’d advise potential buyers to look for the 2.2Ghz model as it’s likely to run cooler, and therefore generate lest turbine style fan noise.
