Surface Book 3 for video editing: UNBOXED!

August 6, 2020

How does the device ship?

We are finally unboxing the new Surface Book 3. We ordered the Surface for business model. So it came shipped in a brown cardboard box with very minimal packaging. Very unlike the commercial packaging, it’s far more environmentally friendly. Not to mention easier to open and deploy.

This is what the Surface Book 3 looks like as it's shipped.
This is what you can expect your Surface for business model to look like.

What will the device be used for?

This device will primarily be used for video editing. So we will bring you more content about how it performs, compared with previous Surface models.

The Surface Book 3 out of the box.
Unboxed and ready to set up!

Currently, our two video editors are running Adobe Premiere render tests across four different Surface models. These range from the Pro 6 to the Book 3. Look out for the results of those tests on our YouTube channel.

What’s different about the charger?

The charger that ships with the device is not any old Surface charger. It puts out more power – 127W to be precise. So it will provide faster, more effective charging. One of the issues with the previous Book model was the charger. Technically, it was possible to run down the battery while on charge. Of course, that would only be possible if you were running super high power intensity software. But that issue is solved in this model with it’s new charger.

Compared with other Surface models, the Book 3 is a powerhouse. So if your workflow consumes a lot less power, perhaps the Surface Go 2 is more your cup of tea. If you already own a Surface device, check out the new charging options by J-Go Tech. Or perhaps you own a desktop computer and are looking for a companion device. Take a look at how I use Surface for that.
