Fujitsu T901 Convertible Tablet PC with NVIDIA Dedicated Graphics is real, and it’s in stock!

Back in March there was some debate about wether the new Fujitsu T901 would really come out with NVIDIA graphics. Well it did, and here it is!

Since HP dropped the Tm2, Fujitsu are now the only company to offer a Tablet PC with dedicated graphics.

The NVidia Optimus solution is particularly clever because when it’s not needed, the tablet will automatically switch over to the Intel HD 3000 on board graphics chip. That means that NVidia 3D graphics power is there when you need it (gaming, AutoCAD, Solidworks, 3D graphics work), but not wasting battery life when you don’t (spread sheets, email, web etc).

The current model available is the Intel Core i5 NVidia Optimus model. Specs and purchasing details can be found here:

Fujitsu Lifebook T901 will have dedicated NVIDIA graphics

17380scr_700aaa2fa91bd0fFujitsu have announced a coming update to their top of range Tablet PC (Lifebook T900) – Fujitsu Lifebook T901.

There are two variations due for Australian release in April and June 2011.

Updated features for April model include:

  • USB 3.0 – For faster connectivity to USB devices (Memory keys, Hard Drive etc)
  • Better screen bezel – The space between the edge of the LED screen and the bezel has been widened making it easier to get into the corners… The bezel also has a gentler angle to allow your fingers into the corners.
  • Slightly revised design but using the same battery and accessories as the T900
  • “Sandy Bridge” processor – an improved and updated version of the powerful Intel Core i7.

Updated for June model (in addition to the above):

  • NVIDIA Optimus dedicated graphics

For several years now, there has only been one Tablet that offered integrated graphics (HP Tm2), but it wasn’t up to business standards. For customers who wanted to do things like run AutoCAD, Advanced Video Editing or Graphics work there were simply no great options… until now.

The new T901 will be the only Tablet PC available with dedicated graphics (HP Tm2 is no longer sold in Australia). Coupling the NVIDIA Optimus GPU with the Intel Core i7 should make the T901 the most powerful Tablet PC on the market by far.

Take a look at a preview of the T901 below:

Another good Fujitsu T4310 Review

Feb

2010

Engadget gave the new Fujitsu T4310 a great review, not for its looks, but for its great multi-touch tablet experience with Windows 7.

The key feature for really useful and functional touch Tablet PCs is the inclusion of both the Wacom Active Digitizer Pen and the capacitive touch screen. The T4310 is one of the many new Windows Tablet PCs that include both!

A touch screen on its own makes for a very limited Tablet PC experience.

Navigating web pages and opening programs is a dream with touch under Windows 7. On the other hand handwriting recognition, sketching and note taking are completely impractical with touch.

So the inclusion of the pen gives you both the convenience of touch and the note taking and sketching functionality of the accurate digitizer pen.

Take a look at the Fujitsu Lifebook T4310 in this video below:

Fujitsu T4310 user video – shows Windows 7 Multi-touch and OneNote 2010

We’ve had a great time playing with the new multi-touch Fujitsu T4310 over the summer. The combination of windows 7, Office 2010 (currently in beta) and multi-touch just rocks!

The first Fujitsu tablet to come out with multi-touch was the T4310, and it has now been followed up by the T900, the replacement for the beefy T5010 Tablet PC. Fujitsu continue to innovate with pen and touch computing and are one of the clear leaders in the Tablet PC field.

The following user give a good demonstration of the T4310. Although this user points out a couple of the shortfalls of the product, he still gives it a big thumbs up… And so do we.

Part 2 in particular shows how the capacitive touch screen works with OneNote 2010. It makes navigating your workspace super easy!

You won’t find a better demonstration of the combination of digitiser pen and touch. As you will see in this video, touch nicely augments the functionality of the pen.

Touch does not eliminate the need for the pen however, and as you’ll see a digitizer pen is pretty essential for serious Windows based tablets.
